Casa Bloco: the Criciúma house that EZA built and the world recognized
Casa Bloco, built by EZA Engenharia in Criciúma and designed by ES Arquitetura, won sustainability awards and went to Venice. Discover the project.

Every construction company has that one project that sums up what it knows how to do. For EZA Engenharia, one of them is Casa Bloco: a 247 m² residence in Condomínio Jardins, in Criciúma, which we built from ES Arquitetura's design and which later traveled the world, from ArchDaily to an exposure parallel to Venice Architecture Biennale.
A partnership between design and execution
The Casa Bloco was born from a clear division of roles. The architecture is by ES Arquitetura, of architect Diego Justo do Espírito Santo, with interiors by Amanda Maria Miraglia. The execution of the project, that is, taking the design off the paper and turning it into a real house, with a timeline and finishing, was by EZA Engenharia.
This is the routine of a good high-end construction company: receiving an original design, understanding every intention of the architect and building with the precision a home of this level demands. When both sides work in tune, the result is what Casa Bloco delivers.
Exposed concrete, reclaimed wood and blocks that float
The name is no accident. The concept of the project is roof blocks that seem to float over the house, creating a light reading for a heavy material like concrete. The palette is honest and low-impact: exposed concrete, reclaimed demolition wood and metal roofing.
Building with exposed concrete and reclaimed wood forgives no mistake: everything is on display, with no cladding to hide behind. It is the kind of project that separates those who execute with control from those who improvise. The integrated garden and natural lighting complete the house, connecting the interior to the exterior.
From the Criciúma project to international recognition
Once completed, Casa Bloco was recognized in some of architecture's leading showcases. It took 3rd place in the residential category of the 7th Saint-Gobain Architecture Award, focused on sustainable habitat. It was nominated for ArchDaily's Building of the Year 2020. And, in 2021, it was part of an exhibition running parallel to the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale.
These awards recognize the architectural design, which is by ES Arquitetura. But none of them would exist without a real, well-built house to be photographed and visited. That house was built by EZA.
