It's rare for a house built in southern Santa Catarina to appear in Venice. That is what happened with the Casa Bloco, a project EZA Engenharia built in Criciúma: in 2021, it was selected for a collateral exhibition to the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale, one of the most important showcases of architecture worldwide.
What exactly happened in Venice
To avoid any confusion, precision is worthwhile. The Casa Bloco was selected for the Best International Houses Design exhibition, also called Casa Platform @Venezia 2021, a collateral event of the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale. The show was organized by Platform, a brand of Publicomm, and brought together around 70 projects chosen by a scientific committee from entries around the world.
In other words: it is not the official Biennale competition, it is a parallel exhibition linked to the event, which is already a significant international recognition for a residential project. The 17th Biennale, which was to be held in 2020, was postponed to 2021 because of the pandemic.
The role of the construction company in a project that travels
A house only reaches an international exhibition because, before that, it was genuinely built, with the quality that can withstand being photographed up close and examined by a committee. The design is by ES Arquitetura; the construction, with all the rigor of exposed concrete and reclaimed wood, was by EZA Engenharia.
